After the meetings with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Hoyt Yee and the political Albanian leaders, they decided to consider the platform proposed a few weeks ago by EPP Vice President David McAllister to give a final solution to the political crisis.
The meeting of senior US official with Prime Minister Edi Rama, PD leader Lulzim Basha, newly elected President Ilir Meta, has given the first positive effects to return political parties back to the dialogue.
Following US pressure, Prime Minister Edi Rama and Democratic Party leader Basha are engaged to reach a possible compromise for the next 48 hours.
It is known from various sources of Tirana Today, Democratic Party has shown itself ready to accept the “McAllister” platform to resolve the crisis, also driven by the difficult situation faced by the international factor.
During the 3-month crisis, Prime Minister Edi Rama and DP leader Basha met twice in the presence of the President of the Republic, Bujar Nishani, but unable to reach an agreement. While they are considering to find a way out that can be favorable to both (majority and opposition), which is related to what EPP Vice President David McAllister proposed a few weeks ago.
“McCallister” platform provides:
- The postponement of elections to July 16th
- Replacement of four cabinet ministers Rama with caretaker government elected by Prime Minister Rama and approved by the opposition.
- Election by Consensus of the People’s Advocate, CEC chairman to be elected by the opposition.
- Agree for an OSCE round-table, and participation of non-profit organizations throughout this process.
The opposition may give up on some of its claims:
- The presence of four technical ministers set by Rama.
- The caretaker government’s leader to be proposed by the Socialist Party, Edi Rama or the majority.
- Settling the election date to be conditioned by the Albanian citizens’ right.
- Biometric, electronic voting and electronic counting of Albanians’ votes.
