Prime Minister Edi Rama, after a head-to-head meeting with the EU’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, in Brussels, before the informal dinner with the Western Balkan Prime Ministers, told the media that the EU should be prepared after June elections, Albanian government and opposition will be unified on requiring the opening of negotiations.
“I told the chief of European diplomacy that after June 25, they must be prepared that the government and opposition after the elections will seek for the opening of negotiations with the European Union” , Rama said for the reporters, stressing that many obstacles have been already overcame, including the vetting.
“We hope very much that after the elections in Germany, everything will be much clearer and Albania will open negotiations at the end of this year, thanks to the agreement we have made in Albania, thanks to the elections that are very much likely not to be controversial” – he said.
Speaking of cross-regional relations and obstacles on the common path of integration, he said, “There is no problem at the level of the reports. There is dialogue, communication, interaction of a common sense for the future of the Balkan countries. Then, of course, our willingness might not be enough, so Europe must have its willingness as well and we hope to get this will after the June 25th elections and after the elections in Germany.”
