Dimitris Avramopoulos congratulated Ilir Meta after his election as President of the Republic of Albania. “During this time, when populism and nationalism are on the rise, our region needs leaders who will build strong relationships of friendship, cooperation and peace with all peoples in the region. We can not allow the Balkans to ‘be’ Balkanized ‘and we must avoid any return to its dark past. You and your country will always have my support and friendship. Best wishes” – wrote Avramopoulos adding that Albania is heading to an European future.
