On Saturday, Democratic Party started the elections campaign. Dozens of people, DP militants, were gathered at “Martyrs of the Nation” boulevard.
But the event didn’t develop normally as it is learned from various sources that about 50 people have been appeared to hospital with symptoms such as acne, burns, watering or eye disorders.
This anomaly is suspected to have been caused by a kind of dust in the area where the DP rally was being held, which has caused some eye irritation to some citizens.
However, there is still no formal answer, while the police have taken measures to make it clear that these symptoms have been caused to the DP’s sympathizers.
Among the citizens with these symptoms is also, opposition’s leader Lulzim Basha, which according to various sources he arrived at hospital around 04:39 on Sunday morning.
Basha reacted related to the incident saying that police should work on identifying the people which caused the intoxication regardless of who they are.
On the other hand Socialist Party said for the media: “Today, at 5:00 am, General Director of the Tirana University Hospital Center was close to people who went for medical assistance about the symptoms that were manifested. Half an hour later, the general police director ordered the provision of public space where yesterday’s activity took place and investigations are still ongoing. So, the institutions are working and all the relevant authorities are ready to offer their assistance.”
Additionally Albanian President Nishani reacted regarding the incident wishing first of all for the citizens to be recovered as soon as possible.
“President is keeping in touch with all law enforcement agencies to be informed about the development of this incident and asks for their maximum engagement in its full disclosure.”
