Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha stressed that he has agreed with Prime Minister Edi Rama that after June 25th they will make radical changes to the Electoral Code and the country’s constitution to deploy the majority system in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Basha noted that the “recall” model will be implemented, where voters can dismiss their MP if they do not keep promises made during the electoral campaign without having to wait for the next election.
“We will change the electoral system. Citizens will have the opportunity to dismiss their MP if they do not work properly. I agreed on constitutional reform and the Electoral Code with Edi Rama. In my opinion, we should apply the majority system. If an elected abuses their post, citizens should not wait for the elections to decide on it. This is called “recall”. If the ministers do not represent people, then people have the right to seek for their dismissing.” – Basha stated.
