The so-called “House of Leaves” or the notorious State Security Center during the Communist era, with the function of a medical clinic, has turned into an open museum to be visited by everyone. A two storey building, one of the arsenal of the State Security in Communism, the center of dreadnought horror, known as the ” House of Leaves”, is the place where everyone was busted, holding all the records for every suspect of the communist regime.
The Ministry of Culture presented yesterday to the citizens the form and the way of its transformation.
Built in 1931, the building has initially been functioning as a clinic. During the Second World War, under the German invasion, it belonged to the Gestapo, while later on, during the early years of the dictatorship, it became a security center (political police) used for investigations. By 1950, it became the headquarters of the technical and scientific section of the Security.
The house is located in the center of the city, on the opposite side of the Orthodox Cathedral, near Skanderbeg Square and Central Bank of Albania.
