Albania is one of the richest countries with water resources. Big potentials of water are a gift of nature, but at the same time they are a “curse” because there is lack of leaders worthy to using these capacities.
Although there are built many hydro power plants, we cannot yet meet the needs of consumers. Albanian state sees it reasonable to import electricity and not find solutions for the management of the situation or for finding alternative means.
The biggest problem is not on import but on energy distribution management and the lack of alternative routes.
A study conducted by the ‘Balkan Green Foundation’ reports on the Balkan energy network and the study refers to 2014. The report states that the current electricity generation capacity in Albania reaches an average of 5 TW / h per year.
Based on 2014 statistics, electricity demand in Albania amounted to 7.8 TWh / year.
From this study Albania and Kosovo are the only countries on the list that have a power loss in the distribution network of more than 30%. In the Balkans, the country with the least losses is Bosnia and Herzegovina with 10%.
Albania in 2014 imported 3,356 GWh, and there was a loss of 2,622 GWh in the network. Albania has losses in the network of 37.8 percent. So almost 80% of imported energy, lost in network…
While Kosovo imported 966 GWh and had a loss of network of 1,526 GWh. Kosovo has a loss in the network of 33.5 percent.
If we see Macedonia has imported 3.073 GWh and there was a loss of network of 914 GWh. Macedonia has net losses of 15.5 percent.
Bosnia Herzegovina has imported 3.178 GWh and has suffered a loss of network of 1,018 GWh. Bosnia and Herzegovina has a loss of 10.7 percent in the network.
Montenegro imported 886 GWh and had a loss of 433 GWh. Montenegro has net losses of 17.6 percent.
Serbia imported 3.180 GWh and had a 4215 GWh network loss. Serbia has net losses of 14.4 percent. (TIRANA TODAY)
