US Ambassador in Tirana, Donald Lu, “reprimands” Prime Minister Rama, saying that statements of national unification between Albania and Kosovo undermine stability in the Balkans.
“The United States Government supports the sovereignty of Kosovo and Albania. But we are against the declarations for unification between the two countries because it undermines and breaches the stability of the Balkan region and the European path of the two countries”, Lu told to BIRN.
This attitude of Ambassador Lu comes after Prime Minister Rama’s statement in an interview with “Policito Europe”, in which he highlighted that if the European Union closes the doors to the Balkans, Albania and Kosovo have no other way but unifying with one another. The same attitude was also held by Kosovo President Hashim Thaci in an interview for “Free Europe”. Meanwhile, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Musfata described both as populist statements.
Rama’s recent declarations made Serbian Prime Minister, the European Union and now also the US ambassador Donald Lu call on Prime Minister Rama to be more cautious in such statements.
