Russian media continue to echo the Serbian politics. This time protagonist is “Russia Today”, which writes that Serbia warns of a new war in the Balkans if Kosovo joins Albania.
“A senior Serbian government official warned that another war may break out in the Balkans if Albania tries to establish a union with the breakaway region of Kosovo, urging the West to denounce the plan.”-RT reads.
Referring to Prime Minister Rama’s statements that if the EU stops enlargement, Albania and Kosovo will have no option left but go for the unification, “Russia Today” highlights the statement of Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, which a few days ago stated: “If I said that all Serbs should live in one state, I would be hanged from a flagpole in Brussels,”
Also responding to Prime Minister Rama’s declaration, Serbian government minister Alexander Vulin said he expects NATO and the European Union to react to such statements, as another war might break out in the Balkans. According to Vulin, this new war might also involve Macedonia and Montenegro, thus all the countries with their ethnic Albanian population.
“Serbia remains wary of a union between Kosovo and Albania, fearing it would trigger a new upheaval in the region which slid into bloody ethnic war in the 1990s as Yugoslavia was torn apart. In 1999, NATO bombed Yugoslavia in response to what the alliance said was ethnic cleansing of the Muslim population of Kosovo. “-Russia Today reads.
