Albanian journalist Kastriot Myftaraj is staying in the detention facility after being stopped last night by the police because of a post he made against the European Union ambassador, Romana Vlahutin.
Myftaraj was arrested on charges of “Public Call for Violent Actions” provided by Article 223 of the Criminal Code. This article provides that such convictions for violent acts are punishable by a fine or by imprisonment of up to 2 years. The journalist will continue to remain in custody until the court’s decision on the security measure, where it will be decided whether to be released or in prison.
Kastriot Myftaraj was arrested because of his article published on Facebook, saying, among other things, that “any Albanian who loves their homeland could kill Romana and this would be an anti-terrorist act.”
Myftaraj, 51, is also a lawyer politically affiliated with the center-right opposition.
