About 41% of Britons will change plans this year , due to depreciation of sterling. About 16%, or about 8 million Britons, will choose to relax in one of the destinations within the country.
There are Britons, the study shows, who seem to abandon the traditional destinations, such as the US, Australia, France and Spain, as this year will cost more.
But where will British people go this year for a vacation?
“The Guardian” has compiled a list of 10 destinations that this year will be chosen by the British and third is Albania.
The top classifications are Nepal and South Africa, while Albania leaves behind countries like Bulgaria, Colombia or even Serbia.
Currently the pound is at the level of 2013 comparing to the euro. Vacations have never been so cheap and so universal, “The Guardian” writes.
The number of tourists traveling abroad in 2015 was 1.2 million. “The British, it seems, will choose to relax anywhere in the world, but there is no doubt that 2017 will be the year of Southeast Europe,” Travelzoo’s Joel Brandon-Brown says.
On the other hand, tourism agencies confirm that there is an increase in online bookings as well as for individual tours. There is also increasing interest for destinations such as Portugal, Greece, but also Croatia, a country that is not yet in the Eurozone.
“Located near Great Britain and out the EU, Albania is an excellent opportunity for independent travelers. There are spectacular rivers, ancient cities and a splendid Adriatic unspoiled coastline. It also has a stable currency. What you will find in Albania is an unusually low-cost, tourism-free country. You can travel to the “Bjeshkët e Namuna” (part of the Dinaric Alps) to follow the footsteps of Via Egnatia, the old Roman road that once connected the Adriatic with the Black Sea. The cobbled bridges and roads have remained the same for more than 2,000 years” – The Guardian reads.
