The cautious situation of pre-elections in the Balkans has attracted the attention of international institutions. Following the great focus that the senior US official put on the current situation, EU wants to balance the interest level by summoning the leaders of the six Western Balkans countries to Brussels.
According to the Office of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, Federica Mogherini, invited to a meeting on May 24 in Brussels, the leaders of Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, in order to discuss and find ways to overcome rising tension and accelerate the integration processes.
Macedonia is still in an unstable post-election situation, characterized by a fearsome political-ethnic polarization, Kosovo on the eve of early elections, Albania also on the brink of general elections, Bosnia and Herzegovina under threat of partition based Ethnic origin, (a problem also evidenced by recent US monitoring), etc.
