The Appeals Court, in Colmar, France, released Ramush Haradinaj.
The decision took a few minutes, at today’s session, which took place following several sessions.
Dozens of Albanians were present in court, eagerly waiting for Haradinaj’s release, which was being imprisoned in France since early January, following a warrant issued by Serbia.
Court’s decision was applauded by the people present who were greatly rejoiced when the former Prime Minister of Kosovo was released.
Serbia sought extradition of AAK leader, which was accused of war crimes, but the Appeals Court in France acquitted Haradinaj.
Following the acquittal of Ramush Haradinaj, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci reacted by welcoming the decision of the Court of Appeals in France. Through a Facebook post, Thaci writes that this decision once again proved that the defamation of Serbian services against the Kosovo Liberation Army are unstable.
Haradinaj’s arrest at a French airport after he flew in from Kosovo in January heightened tensions between Belgrade and Pristina. It also sparked protests by Albanians both inside and outside Kosovo, calling for his release and condemning the arrest as a political act.
